Yesterday at my job, I was thinking about what art I could make from things around me.
Here’s what I came up with:
This is a little paper quilt made of squares cut from an issue of SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management) Magazine and glued to an old piece of cardboard. Heehee!
It was fun and I like my little quilt. Can you see that the dark brown pieces can from a picture of suit lapels?
And here’s the photo that occurred when this fell over while I was taking a picture of it:
You may be a photographer or your skills may lie elsewhere. The really exciting thing for me here is thinking about how each of our unique skillsets can be shared with the world.
Searching for more generic volunteer opportunities is important and needed. There’s always a call for envelope stuffers.
But there is more you can do! And when you are volunteering doing something you love, I think there is extra good and value happening. You’re bringing bonus passion to the table – and probably having fun and learning quite a lot, too.
What are your skills? Let’s brainstorm about how you can donate them for good in new ways!
I’m very happy to announce we have six beautiful new beaded items in our fundraising etsy shop!
A friendly group of turtles:
And a collection of love-filled necklaces:
All these gorgeous beaded creations are by craft artist Jen Crispin.
I actually have one of her necklaces and one of her turtles myself, and I love them both. The turtles are just adorable and her necklaces feel good and also get lots of compliments.
All proceeds from this shop go to help a family in the creative community. Due to a series of major, unexpected medical bills, these self-employed folks find themselves needing a hand with paying their mortgage, utility bills, and other basics.
