February 2009

Yesterday, I saw the first snowbells poking out of the earth.

I have to admit, I bent down and made sure they were not fake.

Some people stick artificial flowers in the ground around here. Have you ever seen that?

Well, these were real!

I didn’t have my camera with me, but I suggest you click here and get an eyeful of sweet snowbells!

It’s a warm day today and spring is in the air. I have come to appreciate winter so much more than ever before this year…but spring is still exciting!

Yesterday at my job, I was thinking about what art I could make from things around me.

Here’s what I came up with:

This is a little paper quilt made of squares cut from an issue of SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management) Magazine and glued to an old piece of cardboard. Heehee!

It was fun and I like my little quilt. Can you see that the dark brown pieces can from a picture of suit lapels?

And here’s the photo that occurred when this fell over while I was taking a picture of it:

This morning, I want to share some links to recent beautiful posts I’ve enjoyed. I think you will enjoy them, too!

Thank you to all the wonderful people who share their thoughts, hopes, fears, beauty, and silliness with us all!

My heart is moved by all I cannot save:
so much has been destroyed

I have to cast my lot with those
who age after age, perversely,

with no extraordinary power,
reconstitute the world.

An intriguing and meditative video with spoken word by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

There’s an inspiring post (and comment section) over at Shutter Sisters about ways to volunteer your skills as a photographer. I love the ideas people shared for how to donate your creative skills to wonderful causes.

You may be a photographer or your skills may lie elsewhere. The really exciting thing for me here is thinking about how each of our unique skillsets can be shared with the world.

Searching for more generic volunteer opportunities is important and needed. There’s always a call for envelope stuffers.

But there is more you can do! And when you are volunteering doing something you love, I think there is extra good and value happening. You’re bringing bonus passion to the table – and probably having fun and learning quite a lot, too.

What are your skills? Let’s brainstorm about how you can donate them for good in new ways!

A friend of mine posted this great video. I had to pass it on!

How to knit ramen noodles!

I’m very happy to announce we have six beautiful new beaded items in our fundraising etsy shop!

A friendly group of turtles:

And a collection of love-filled necklaces:

All these gorgeous beaded creations are by craft artist Jen Crispin.

I actually have one of her necklaces and one of her turtles myself, and I love them both. The turtles are just adorable and her necklaces feel good and also get lots of compliments.

Check it out and please spread the word!

All proceeds from this shop go to help a family in the creative community. Due to a series of major, unexpected medical bills, these self-employed folks find themselves needing a hand with paying their mortgage, utility bills, and other basics.

THANK YOU!

Con toda palabra
Con toda sonrisa
Con toda mirada
Con toda caricia

Me acerco al agua
Bebiendo tu beso
La luz de tu cara
La luz de tu cuerpo

Es ruego el quererte
Es canto de mudo
Mirada de ciego
Secreto desnudo

Me entrego a tus brazos
Con miedo y con calma
Y un ruego en la boca
Y un ruego en el alma

Con toda palabra
Con toda sonrisa
Con toda mirada
Con toda caricia

Me acerco al fuego
Que todo lo quema
La luz de tu cara
La luz de tu cuerpo

Es ruego el quererte
Es canto de mudo
Mirada de ciego
Secreto desnudo

Me entrego a tus brazos
Con miedo y con calma
Y un ruego en la boca
Y un ruego en el alma

With all words
With all smiles
With all looks
With all caresses

I draw near the water
Drinking your kiss
The light of your face
The light of your body

To love you is a prayer
The song of the mute
The eyes of the blind
The naked secret

I entrust myself to your arms
I’m afraid and I’m calm
A prayer in my mouth
And a prayer in my soul

With all words
With all smiles
With all looks
With all caresses

I draw near the fire
That burns all of this
The light of your face
The light of your body

To love you is a prayer
The song of the mute
The eyes of the blind
The naked secret

I entrust myself to your arms
I’m afraid and I’m calm
A prayer in my mouth
And a prayer in my soul

Use every letter you write, every conversation you have, every meeting you attend, to express your fundamental beliefs and dreams. Affirm to others the vision of the world you want. You are a free, immensely powerful source of life and goodness. Affirm it. Spread it. Radiate it. Think day and night about it and you will see a miracle happen: the greatness of our own life.
