There’s Freecycling and being a Freegan, so there can be Freegardening, too.

Last summer, I had the idea of growing plants in pots on the patio. That’s not a new idea. What was different was, I decided not to purchase anything. So, any soil or plants would be found objects. I dug up some flowering ‘weeds’ and that worked pretty well, but I didn’t put much effort at all into it.

I’m thinking I might try again this year – this time for real. The rules are:

* No transplanting plants that are rare (obviously) or otherwise hurting wild spaces. Duh.
* No sneaking into rich people’s gardens at night and stealing the plants from their gardens. Darn.

That’s the law and the whole of the law. Let’s see how I do! If I do this in earnest, I’ll post photos.

There’s been a lot going on in my life lately, and while I may not have been blogging…you know I’ve still been reading! Even if it’s just a few pages a day, I always make a little bit of time for a book.

I recently read a book called Chez Moi by Agnes Desarthe, translated from French to English by Adriana Hunter.

chez moi

I’ll be honest. When I picked up this book, I thought it was just another Woman Starts Restaurant/Bakery books. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy those books a lot. The more graphically (pornographically?) the breads and spices are described, the better! But they do tend to be light reading.

This book was much more than I expected and a delightful surprise. It’s got all the great food-lover aspects, but also more serious and dramatic elements. It leaves you feeling good, though. I definitely recommend it.

This season has come and gone, but it’s nice to remember all the flowering trees…
