Muffin Madness

It’s true. I didn’t have a muffin tin for years. I just never made muffins.

I finally bought one and it’s the Muffin Bowl around here. First were Blueberry Muffins - a classic. They were quite good.

Then came the Soysage and Cheese Muffins. These little things are fairly tasty, but totally ugly. I think I can improve them next time.

And this morning - Sour Cream Mini Coffee Cakes, inspired by Anjali.

These are gooood.

The Clinic

“After 22 years in private practice, Dr. Lorna Stuart found herself frustrated with the number of insurance companies and the rules and restrictions that came with them. “The day-to-day time that I spent on paperwork was increasing, while my patients weren’t getting the good care that I wanted to give them — face-to-face time, one-on-one time,” she recalls. “I vowed to do whatever little I could about this inequity of care.”

For Stuart, that vow came in the form of opening her own clinic and treating the uninsured. Her efforts resulted in “The Clinic: Medical Center for the Uninsured,” a charitable, sun-filled clinic that has since received more than 40,000 patient visits. Individuals receive free or low-cost primary medical care across eight specialties, regardless of income or locality.”

Earthy Quotes

It may be that some little root of the sacred tree still lives.
Nourish it then, that it may leaf and bloom and fill with singing birds.
–Black Elk

Living in a forest
I am wrapt round by goddesses.
Lifting their arms and their hair
they spin soft green whispers,
speaking to each other
and to me in the morning.
–Carol Atkins

Every bird song, wind song, and
tremendous storm song of the rocks
in the heart of the mountains in our song,
our very own, and sings our love.
–John Muir

Will we let the wind sing to us?
Do our whole bodies listen?
When the wind calls, will we go?
–Susan Griffin

There is a blessedness surely to be believed,
and that is that everything abides in
eternal ecstasy, now and forever.
–Jack Kerouac

Let there be peace in the sky
and in the atmosphere,
peace in the plant world and in the forests;
Let the cosmic powers be peaceful;
Let there be fulfilling peace everywhere.
–Atharvaveda
