What’s your favorite book that nobody else has heard of?
I’ve recommended Cordelia Underwood: Or the Marvelous Beginnings of the Moosepath League by Van Reid in the past for this sort of question. It’s certainly not totally unknown, but I don’t think it’s gotten anywhere near the recognition it deserves.
Today, I’m going to highlight:
It’s actually rather new - a 2007 release. But have you read it? Well, go give it a try!
Someone on amazon called it a “Zen Tuesdays with Morrie.” That made me laugh, but I don’t agree with the description.
Jake Fades is one fo those books that made me feel better about life and helped me live it. That’s pretty high praise, I think!

I’m glad I had someone else to pick the winners, because it would have been too hard of a choice for me! So, I presented all the entries anonymously to a judge.
He picked a 1st and 2nd place winner.
As we know, the 1st place winner will receive a lovely little hardback copy of 100 Flowers and How They Got Their Names by Diana Wells, Illustrated by Ippy Patterson.

And that winner is: Jacqui for her dandelion!!!
Because we received so many beautiful entries, we decided to pick a 2nd place winner, too.
2nd place goes to Karen for her gerbera daisy!
Karen will receive some flora-related papergoods that I hope she’ll enjoy!
Thank you to everyone! I was delighted with all your entries and I really want to honor you all. Beautiful! Thank you!!!

I’ll still accept flower photo contest entries through the end of tomorrow.
THANK YOU, everyone who has sent them in! This has been a great success. And thank you to everyone who has commented saying they’re enjoying all the beautiful photos!
I still have a lot of photos to post. So, get ready for some flowery goodness!

How much do reviews (good and bad) affect your choice of reading? If you see a bad review of a book you wanted to read, do you still read it? If you see a good review of a book you’re sure you won’t like, do you change your mind and give the book a try?
***
I both enjoy and scoff and book reviews! I really enjoy reading about books (thinking about books, browsing books, etc.) and a well-written review can be great. But then there are the reviewers who are just too cool or too ironic or too terribly clever to like anything. And those reviews I hate.
I am a big believer in: Let me decide for myself!
More often than not, if I’m reading a review it’s for the sake of reading that piece of writing. I may enjoy the review a lot and never read the book!
And as much as I like a good book review…for some reason I hate writing them! It’s a skill I’d like to develop.
