Favorite Childhood Books in Review

I’ve loved reading all your responses to my Wednesday Book Questions so far! Thank you and please do keep sharing your responses. A new question went up yesterday and, of course, there will be two more later this month.

My first question was: What was one of your favorite books during childhood?

I got so many great answers. I want so share some of them with you now!

Elisa talked about Goodnight Moon. I’m sure many, many people would agree that this was a favorite of theirs. It’s celebrating it’s 60th anniversary and still going strong!

Catslyn and DaveP both have fond memories of enjoying books (Heidi and Mrs. Pepperpot’s Outing, respectively) with their moms/mums.

Felicia loved the Nancy Drew series, which reminds me that Kelly will be hosting a Nancy Drew Carnival at Tiny Treasury tomorrow.

Nicole had trouble picking because she loved so many (I feel the same way, Nicole!), but she told us about Where’s the Bear? by Betty Hubka. It looks like this one is out of print, but you can still find copies online.

Well, Allison really, truly could not pick one to settle on. So, she mentioned five! :) Moira’s Birthday, The Fire Cat, the Circle of Magic series, Maniac Magee, and Little House in the Prairie.

JenClair introduced us to Hitty and callmeabookworm loved all the Enid Blyton books, but especially The Wishing Chair.

Finally, Samir’s recollections about old favorites led him not only to comment, but to write a whole post about it! Go read Moon-Faced Men and Multi-Layered Amphibians (great title).

Thank you all so much! And if you haven’t answered, feel free to go back and do so here.

Isn’t it lovely to reminisce about favorite books?

Thanks for the link Emma, and glad you liked the title. I’ can’t lie, there wasn’t really any deep thouight behind it. It was more like … hmm … what exactly am I writing about? … describe the two things and put the very useful word “and” in the middle. Voila! :)

All this talk of Nancy Drew brings back a few memories for me too, although I got into that and the Hardy Boys a little later just to see what all the hoopla was about.

Did anyone else wonder how Nancy Drew always happened to stumble upon both a mystery and a romantic interest on every holiday/trip/excursion she went? Also, how come The Hardy brothers always got involved in mysteries that happened to involve their father’s latest case in the last chapter?? It’s a mystery to me.

It might have been fine back then but in todays post-X-files and Harry Potter world, I smell a conspiracy involving mysterious goverment agencies … or maybe mysterious governmental dating agencies in Nancy’s case? The truth is out there. ;)
