1st Wednesday Book Question

As you read here, each Wednesday in June I’m asking a book-related question. Answer in the comments and you’ll be entered into the drawing for a booky prize at the start of July! Each comment on a Wednesday Book Question Post will count as a entry, so be sure to comment at least four times this month!

Today’s Question:

What was one of your favorite books during childhood?

Tell me as much or as little (but at least the title) about the book as you like. And I might include your memories in some future posts, too.

***

One of my favorite books as a kid was Mister Dog.

Once upon a time there was a funny dog named Crispin’s Crispian. He was named Crispin’s Crispian because he belonged to himself.

I re-read the story in recent years and thought it was so-so, but I still love those illustrations…

My favorite book from when I was really wee was Goodnight Moon. I was particularly fond of the little lady who said “hush” as I recall.

My favorite book was Heidi. My mom and I used to read it aloud together sitting at out dining room table. I must have been about six years old.

My mum bought me ‘Mrs Pepperpot’s Outing’ by Alf Proysen when I was in hospital after an accident. I must have been about 10 and whether I love it because it was great, or because of the situation I don’t know, but it’s certainly the first book that sprang to my mind when I read your question.

The Nancy Drew series. Loved them! I wanted to be Nancy since she had all manner of adventures :)

I loved so many, but one of my earliest favourites (starting when I was about 1) was “Where is the Bear?” by Betty Hubka. I think I still have most of it memorized.

The first book that comes to mind I believe was called Moira’s Birthday. It’s a Munsch book–I used to go to the library and take out every single book by him! To add to that, I also loved The Fire Cat (so much that my mom hid it because she was sick of reading it to me), and as I got older, The Circle of Magic Books, Maniac Magee, and Little House on the Prairie topped my list.

My favourite book during childhood was called “A Text Book of Biology”. My favourite children’s book on the other hand is The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton.

Confused? The answers are better explained through this story:

That post began when I started thinking about your question, wanting to leave a comment here. It brought back memories I had forgotten about, and my short comment turned into a memoir. I thought it would be best to not clutter your comments with my reminiscing so I made a post of it instead. It is still very much a response to your question though.

Thanks Emma, for helping me remember some precious things.

I loved reading all Enid Blyton books, but the Wishing chair series still have the power to stir magic in my heart. All one had to do was sit in the wishing chair and vanish into new adventures. I believed it utterly and tried sitting in every chair in my house. Alas, all we had were ordinary chairs.

I hope it isn’t too late to add to this.
I had so many from the likes of Goosebumps and Shivers to various stories to do with Irish history. The stand out ones to me though are the Roald Dahl books with illustrations by Quentin Blake. I loved them all and constantly re-read them. My favourite, which I’ve read countless times, was a big pink washed hardback which contained ‘The BFG’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ which I got as a present from one of my Aunties. I still have it despite the fact it’s a little worse for wear.
